Alimony laws provide for equality or prevent unfairness after a separation from a marriage. Also referred to as spousal support, alimony is usually ordered in part of an agreement or court order for one spouse to pay a monthly amount to the other spouse after the marriage. The times this is frequent is when a spouse has a low income in comparison to the other spouse.
There are laws however that govern when these alimony payments may become void, and not everyone in every situation of divorce is entitled to alimony payments. It is important to know these laws, as the qualifications and dis-qualifications can be a fine line.
